New children's hospital welcomes Minister's announcement to proceed to planning

The Development Board welcomes the announcement today, 6th July, by the Minister for Health James Reilly of the timely completion of the review of the new Children’s Hospital of Ireland project and the confirmation of the Mater site as the location for the new hospital.
The Board shares completely the Minister’s stated desire that the new Children’s Hospital be delivered in pursuit of the best clinical outcomes for children, and within the resources available.
The Minister has indicated that the Government will be considering the project in the context of a wider review of all capital spending. The Board awaits the outcome of this review but is committed to proceeding with this project in the shortest possible timeframe.
The Board will meet early next week to formally approve the application for planning, which is now complete. It is our intention to submit the application to An Bord Pleanála following on from the Board’s meeting, in line with the direction from the Minister, and we expect this process to be complete by the end of July.
