Following a State Boards campaign and selection process, the Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly TD, is delighted to announce the appointment of Ms Fiona Ross as Chairperson of the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board (NPHDB). Ms Ross has significant Chair and Board level experience, and currently serves as Chair of Córas Iompair Éireann (CIÉ) and has served on 17 Boards in Ireland and the UK.
“The plans for the new children’s hospital on the St James’s site represent a fantastic opportunity where excellence in multidisciplinary clinical care, education and research can be intrinsically linked. It is with synergy between these areas, and links on the campus to a maternity and adult hospital, that we will be able to create not just a world class building but a world class academic teaching hospital.”
“The new children’s hospital is the most significant capital investment project ever undertaken in healthcare in Ireland and businesses in Dublin 8 stand to gain a lot from the fact that it is being developed in our community. We are very cognisant of the potential for the development of a ‘technology corridor’ in close proximity to a major healthcare campus.
“The inclusion of Social Benefit Clauses as a conditional part of the public procurement process, is not an insignificant contract. It includes training elements with local schools and pathways to employment. Real and sustainable jobs are the only way to break poverty and the hospital offers employment opportunities during construction and when construction is completed.”
“As a business owner and resident of Dublin 8, I’m a huge supporter of the development of the new children’s hospital on a shared campus with St James’s Hospital. Dublin 8 is a wonderful area to work and live in, but it would benefit enormously from this kind of investment. I have no doubt that a development of this scale would result in a much needed regeneration for the wider community.
